Tasks and research fields
  • Lectureship "Gravimetry" and "Recent Geodynamics",
  • Head of the laboratory for terrestrial gravimetry,
  • Initializing and performing of research projects with absolute and relative gravimetry
Gravimetry prpjects

General tasks in scientific projects:
  • absolute monitoring (locally, regionally) of subsurface mass movements, of deformations of the earth's surface in geodynamically active areas, and of the vertical movements of tide gauges (in combination with geometrical procedures),
  • independent comparative/controlling measurements at stations with GPS, VLBI, SLR,stationary superconducting gravimeter,
  • establishment of large scale gravity nets (regionally, continentally, globally) for the unification and definition of gravity and heights systems (e.g., international absolute gravity standardization networks), and to detect tectonically caused temporal gravity changes.

The absolute gravity meter FG5-220 of IfE

Main current research project (support by the German Research Foundation, 2003 to 2009): The Fennoscandian land uplift: a test and application area for GRACE. ein Test- und Anwendungsgebiet für GRACE.

Head of the gravimetry laboratory with the instruments::
  • Absolute gravimeter FG5 (Micro-g Solutions, Inc., Erie, Colorado)
  • Relative gravimeter SCINTREX CG-3M Autograv,
  • LaCosteRomberg Gravimeter (model G and D)
